Zakaah & Sadaqah
Zakaah & Sadaqah Services at Masjid Ahlis Sunnah
At Masjid Ahlis Sunnah, we are committed to helping our community fulfill their charitable duties and embrace the spirit of giving through Zakaah and Sadaqah. Both Zakaah and Sadaqah are essential acts of worship in Islam, designed to purify wealth, support those in need, and strengthen the bonds within our community. Our mission is to provide a straightforward, transparent, and impactful way for you to give, ensuring that your contributions make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
What is Zakaah?
Zakaah is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is an obligatory form of charity. It is a means of purifying one’s wealth by giving a portion (usually 2.5%) to those who are in need. Zakaah is due once a year on savings that meet a specific threshold (the Nisab). The primary recipients of Zakaah include the poor, the needy, orphans, the sick, and those in debt, among others. Giving Zakaah is a way of supporting the less fortunate, ensuring that wealth circulates within the community, and prioritizing social justice.
At Masjid Ahlis Sunnah, we help individuals calculate and distribute their Zakaah in a manner that aligns with Islamic principles. We ensure that your Zakaah reaches the right recipients, fulfilling your religious obligation and creating positive change in the community.
Zakaah Calculation and Guidance:
- Personalized Zakaah Calculation:
Our team offers assistance in calculating the Zakaah due on your wealth, whether it’s savings, investments, or business assets. We help ensure that you give the right amount in accordance with Islamic principles. - Educational Resources:
We provide resources to help you understand the requirements of Zakaah, including who is eligible to receive it, how it should be distributed, and the proper method of calculation.
Zakaah Distribution:
- Transparent Distribution:
Once you have contributed your Zakaah, we ensure that it is distributed directly to those who are eligible. We work closely with local and international charities to identify individuals and communities in need, ensuring that your donation reaches the right hands. - Community Focus:
Zakaah collected at Masjid Ahlis Sunnah is used to support members of our local community as well as broader humanitarian causes, including providing aid to orphans, widows, the elderly, and those experiencing financial hardship.
Islamic Reminder
Narrated Hakim bin Hizam:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The upper hand is better than the lower hand (i.e. he who gives in charity is better than him who takes it). One should start giving first to his dependents. And the best object of charity is that which is given by a wealthy person (from the money which is left after his expenses). And whoever abstains from asking others for some financial help, Allah will give him and save him from asking others, Allah will make him self-sufficient.”
What is Sadaqah?
Sadaqah is voluntary charity that is given in any amount and at any time. Unlike Zakaah, which is obligatory, Sadaqah is encouraged in Islam and can be given for any cause, at any time, and in any form. It is a way to seek the pleasure of Allah by helping others, whether through financial contributions, giving food, providing assistance, or even offering a smile.
Sadaqah can be given to anyone in need, including family members, neighbors, and even strangers. It can also be given to support various community projects such as building masjids, and schools, or supporting education and healthcare efforts. Sadaqah is a beautiful way to earn continous rewards, as the act of giving is always beneficial to the giver and the receiver.

Sadaqah Opportunities:
- Regular Sadaqah Projects:
We regularly organize and promote charitable initiatives where you can give your Sadaqah to support various causes, such as feeding the hungry, helping the homeless, supporting education for underprivileged children, and providing healthcare to those in need. - One-Time and Ongoing Donations:
Whether you prefer to make a one-time donation or set up a recurring Sadaqah commitment, we offer flexible giving options. You can contribute to a specific cause or donate to general charitable funds that support a variety of initiatives. - Special Sadaqah Campaigns:
We often launch special fundraising campaigns for specific causes, such as building masjids, supporting disaster relief efforts, or providing for the educational needs of orphaned children. Your contributions, big or small, play a vital role in making these campaigns successful.
Sadaqah Jariyah (Ongoing Charity):
- Long-Term Impact:
Sadaqah Jariyah refers to charitable actions that continue to benefit others even after the giver has passed away. At Masjid Ahlis Sunnah, we offer opportunities for donors to contribute to projects that will provide long-term benefits, such as the construction of wells, schools, or other community infrastructure. This ensures that your Sadaqah continues to earn rewards for you even after your lifetime.
