Biography of Imam Abu Muslimah

Imam Abu Muslimah first heard of Islam from Imam Abdul Wali Muhammad, the Imam of Masjidullah of Plainfield, NJ in 1976. He later embraced Islam in 1978 through relationships with the Haqq family of Bait Quraish, a Muslim group from Newark, NJ. In his plight to learn more about Islam, Imam Abu Muslimah became a student of Mubashir Uqdah at the Masjidullah of Plainfield, NJ in 1980 in which he learned how to make Wudoo and offer Salaah. In 1983, Imam Zaid Shakir guided him to a deeper level of clarity of the Islamic Religion and full vision of Islam.


Imam Abu Muslimah graduated from Rutgers in 1986, majoring in Management and African American Studies. In 1989, he obtained an Arabic Diploma for fluency in classical Arabic. In 1993, The Imam graduated from the College of Da’wah and the Fundamentals of the Religion, Islamic University of Medina, Saudi Arabia. Imam Abu Muslimah speaks, writes and understands Arabic with fluency. Arabic is considered his second language which has assisted him in educating various audiences and populations.


Abu Muslimah has been the Imam of The Islamic Center of America, Masjidu Ahlis Sunnah in East Orange, NJ since April 1995. Since this time, he has also served as the Islamic Studies Coordinator and/or teacher of Qur’an and Arabic off and on from 1994-present at the Ahlus Sunnah School. He has developed curricula for Middle School and High School Islamic Education and teaches Qur’an, Arabic and Islamic studies. Since 1994, Imam Abu Muslimah has also served as a volunteer in the Tri-State Prison systems. From 1996-1997, he served as the Muslim Chaplain for Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility in Annandale, NJ.


The Imam was born and raised in Plainfield, NJ. He married in 1986 and he and his wife are the proud parents of nine children and nine grandchildren. He is the author of over thirty (30) various published works and a well-known, sought out speaker on a national and international level.


The Imam is an avid reader and researcher with an extensive library of over 8,000 books. He is a consistent listener of beautiful Quranic Recitation. His favorite reciters are his Imam and former professor of Aqeedah, Ali Abdur-Rahman Al-Huthayfee, the Imam of the Prophet’s Masjid in Medina (Masjid Nabawi), and Sheikh Mahmood ibn Khaleel Al Husary.


Outside of his religious duties, family life and listening to Quranic Recitation; Imam Abu Muslimah has a love for herbal medicine and nutrition and is consistent with researching natural health remedies and preventive strategies by natural means. He loves Islam and has dedicated over 34 years of his life studying, preparing, teaching and researching. All praises due to Allah.
